Finally came the day when I was going to go out and experience the volcano. I had been waiting for this moment since it erupted!
On March 19, 2021, in the Geldingadalur area, the volcano started. Since that day, I have wanted to stand and experience the volcano in real life. And finally, it was my turn.
The walk from the parking lot and up to where I stood most of the evening was a walking walk of about 4 km. You can discuss whether the climb is steep or not! Some think it was easy, and others will think it was hard. I was one of those people who has to stop a few times and sweat with a very high heart rate.
But it does not matter to stop, because then you can turn around and look at the beautiful nature that is behind one on the way up (good excuse for a little break)
I’m meeting a Belgian guy Jeroen, who lives here in Iceland. I know him from my previous Icelandic trips.
He had been out by the volcano 16 times before our trip and he has been following developments with the volcano and the area. It was exciting to hear him talk about his experiences.
The drone was sent up and departed 3 times. It tickled my stomach and I was a little nervous. But Jeroen had given me some good tips for what I should do and not do. But it was with great joy every time it came back to me 🙂
I made this YouTube video with moods from June 10, 2021 🙂 There is both video from land, but also a lot of footage with the drone above and around the volcano. I must admit here that I myself am happy with the result. I hope you will enjoy the 4 minutes and watch the recordings I have taken. If possible, get it up on a big screen and enjoy it!
Let me also just share some pictures taken from a 1km distance to the volcano.
And then we will finish with some drone pictures 🙂
I’m already looking forward to getting back to the area and seeing how the volcano has evolved. For already after I was there on June 10, there are again some of the trails that are closed because the lava is flooding them.
Thankfully, I will not have to wait that long to come back. My mom visits me in early July where we are going out there. 🙂
Rolling warm greetings
